at long last
i lay down my pain
closed the wound
buried the ashes
and aired out my room

i had been chasing away
my best friend
but one morning i opened my door
and grace walked in

no one else would have come around
my black cloud
when i saw him on my door step
i laughed and i wept out loud

with a rag he washed the blood from my face
how did i deserve my friend grace?

he said to me
"by these eyes i see
high on your forehead
the sickness of dread

"two old friends have gone away

they will not come back
